- I thought that the Rangers were the better team in the first period and Ilya Sorokin made a bunch of excellent saves to keep the game scoreless. I thought the second period was pretty even and both teams scored on the PP, but I thought the Islanders were the better team in the third period and they got the flukey bounce, after the refs missed an elbow to Ryan Lindgren, to win it. Overall it was a pretty even game, both goalies were excellent and the Rangers fell on the losing side.
- The style of the game was a good one for the Rangers to play in. The Islanders are finally looking like the team that most expected they would be and the Rangers need to play more games like this. They created at five-on-five, but didn’t score and only got on the board after an awesome pass by Alexis Lafreniere to Chris Kreider, for his 40th, on the PP. They need more games against good goaltenders, physical and structured teams because that is what they are going to play in the playoffs. Obviously you want the Rangers to win, pick up points and get home ice in the first round, but I look at this game more like a practice. They need the experience and with more experience the results should turn their way.
- I thought Frank Vatrano was fine for someone who was playing for someone else two nights ago. I’d expect him to be better and to shoot more in the coming games.
- The Rangers got Ryan Reaves for games like these, it’s just that they don’t play a lot of games like these.
- I wonder if Chris Drury will try and strike tomorrow with another move and try to bring in reinforcements for the back-to-back this weekend, otherwise we will see what ultimately comes about by Monday.
- I’m guessing that Alex Georgiev will go on Saturday against Tampa Bay and that Igor Shesterkin will go 22 hours later against Carolina. It should be another good weekend of tests for this team.
