2:56PM: The Rangers have also acquired forward Tyler Motte from Vancouver for a 2023 4th round pick. (Seravalli)
Motte, 27, is a pending UFA and has seven goals and eight assists this season in 49 games.
He is 5-10, 192 and is averaging 14:17 per game.
Ryan Callahan said on ESPN that Motte plays a “gritty, in your-face style” and fits into the Rangers bottom-six.
Adam Rotter: Motte is a nice addition and can fill a spot on the fourth line and the cost wasn’t very much. He adds more depth to the bottom-six, brings an energy, a bit of physicality, and is probably a better version of Dryden Hunt. Where everyone slots in will be interesting to see, especially when Kevin Rooney comes back, but now the Rangers have NHL-caliber options. With Copp and Motte, and when Rooney gets healthy, the Rangers won’t have to dress Julien Gauthier or Jonny Brodzinski, or even Ryan Reaves during some games. There is also what happens when Kaapo Kakko comes back and Frank Vatrano gets moved down and what that means for Filip Chytil, but the Rangers have a little more than a month to get things sorted out before the playoffs.
