Gerard Gallant met with the media following the Rangers loss in Game 4 and said (NYR):
- On the game, “Disappointing. Total team disappointment.”
- On the lack of defensive commitment, “especially tonight, definitely. There wasn’t much commitment to playing defense tonight.”
- What did you see in the second, “exactly the same that you saw. We got away from it, one goal, two goals, played soft, soft all over the ice. That is the biggest difference, we were soft all over the ice.”
- Is the inexperience showing, “I wouldn’t use the word inexperience. I’d use the word ‘not committed to playing the right way.’ We played the right way in New York, no reason why we can’t play the right way tonight. It’s not from the inexperienced guys either, they are part of our group, but tonight you saw a lot of soft, bad plays by a lot of people. It was a team effort tonight.”
- Does it make you scratch your head as to why this happened, “It does, it happens around the league, but I’m worried about my team and I didn’t like what I saw tonight. Real disappointed in our group.”
- On Shesterkin, “He’s probably real frustrated. I don’t know, there were probably four goals that were deflected tonight. It’s a team effort and he’ll be back in there and ready to win the next game on Wednesady. I’ve got all the confidence in the world in him and it was a tough night for our team. He’s not even close to being, I’m more disappointed more in our team than him. At least three pucks were deflected by him, but we just played a soft game.”
- Is it easy to choose Shesterkin for Game 5, “Yes. Best goalie in the league, so I’m going to go with him
