The Rangers have not placed Patrik Nemeth on waivers for the purposes of a buyout.
The Rangers would have saved $1.5 million this season and $2.5 million next year, but would have had the following cap hits as a result of the buyout:
- 2022-23: $1 million
- 2023-24: 0
- 2024-25: $1 million
- 2024-46: $1 million
Nemeth played in 63 games during the regular season for the Rangers (2 goals, 5 assists, minus 9 rating, 16:38 per game) and five in the playoffs before being a healthy scratch from Game Six against Pittsburgh on.
It was reported that a buyout of Nemeth was possible if he wasn’t traded.
Adam Rotter: This is a little surprising, but I’m guessing it means that Chris Drury has a deal or a potential deal somewhere for Nemeth. It’s possible that if Tim Gettinger, Austin Rueschhoff or an RFA they Rangers acquire file for arbitration than the Rangers would trigger a second buyout window where they can buy out Nemeth, but it would seem like if it was going to happen it would have happened now to give the Rangers the maximum amount of space at the start of free agency.(Nemeth’s salary does not meet the requirement to be bought out in the second window.)
