The Rangers have signed forward Ryan Carpenter to a one-year deal worth $750,000.

Carpenter, 31, had three goals and nine assists for Calgary (8 games) and Chicago (59 games) last season.

He is coming off a three-year deal that he signed with Chicago that had a cap hit of $1 million per season. He was traded from Chicago to Calgary for a 2024 5th round pick.

Carpenter played parts of two seasons with Vegas under Gerard Gallant.

Under Gallant he played in 104 games, had 14 goals and 18 assists, 12:52 per game and was 51.2% on faceoffs.

In the 2017-18 playoffs for Vegas, he had five assists, 14:01 per game and 51.5% on faceoffs in 17 games.

He has played in 308 career games, 26 goals, 43 assists, an average of 12:51 per game, and 48.2% on faceoffs. He has 549 career hits in those 308 regular season games and 50 hits in 26 career playoff games.

In his career he averages 1:47 per game on the PK.

Adam Rotter: Carpenter is the depth center and Kevin Rooney replacement. He has a history with Gerard Gallant, he hits, kills penalties, is pretty good on faceoffs and is another veteran. He could end up on the wing in the bottom-six depending on where Barclay Goodrow plays, but he’s just a grinder and depth player that fills a role on a one-year deal. This signing also likely ends any hope the Rangers had of bringing Tyler Motte back.
