Stats:

Adam Rotter:

  • Overall, this group was vastly better than the group that played last night. The Rangers pretty much dominated and had the puck all night. They should have had at least 5-6 goals, but they either missed on their  chances or Mackenzie Blackwood made some really nice saves.
  • It was nice to see Artemi Panarin out there and because Vincent Trocheck was sick, he was centered by Filip Chytil. It’s interesting because if Chytil had played last season like he played in the playoffs, there is certainly a world where the Rangers are entering this season with a line of Panarin, Chytil and Vitali Kravtsov. Instead Trocheck will take that spot and Chytil will run with The Kid Line.
  • Chytil, especially after playing last night, had another pretty strong night. Vitali Kravtsov had some nice moments, Jimmy Vesey, again, seemed to further cement his spot on the roster and Jaro Halak was really good in goal in the second half of the game.
  • K’Andre Miller looks like someone who is going to end up in the top-10, top-15 at worst, in the Norris voting this year.
  • Julien Gauthier was active and noticeable for a lot of the night….but he just can’t score. It’ll be interesting to see what they end up doing with him and whether he stays around as a spare or they risk losing him on waivers.
  • It would seem like Zac Jones is going to get the nod on Opening Night next to Braden Schneider. We’ll learn a lot more during the final two preseason games, but the amount of time he is spending with Schneider would indicate that it’s going to be him.
