The Rangers have announced that Jimmy Vesey has signed a one-year deal.

The deal is worth $750,000. (Cap Friendly)

Vesey had been in training camp on a PTO.

Adam Rotter: Vesey earned his contract with a good showing in training camp and in the preseason. Vesey came to camp with the idea of him being a a fourth-liner and penalty killer but he ended up in the top-six the last few days and games.

There is some appeal/nostalgia to him playing with Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad as that would bring a trio of players that were at the start of the rebuild back together, but ultimately Vesey is there to be a complementary player and not someone that needs to be relied on. The Rangers have had worse/less skilled players play large parts of seasons with Artemi Panarin and Vesey could play that role, but he won’t be the top choice. Vesey will be a cheap role player that can swing up and down the lineup and kill penalties. He isn’t the Jimmy Vesey he was supposed to be when he came out of Harvard, he’s someone that seems to better understand what kind of player he is and/or what he needs to do to stay in the NHL. I’m sure he’ll make some plays and score a big goal or two, but ultimately Vesey is there to kill penalties and be a role player.
