5:32 PM: The Rangers have announced that Braden Schneider has been called up, and Ryan Carpenter was sent to Hartford.

Schneider was sent down for cap purposes in order to accrue the necessary space for Patrick Kane.

The Rangers have also traded Austin Rueschhoff to Nashville for Future Considerations.

Rueschhoff was signed in March 2020 as an undrafted free agent.

He has played in 113 games for Hartford over the past three seasons, scoring 20 goals, 23 assists and a minus 13 rating with 92 PIM.

Adam Rotter: The Schneider/Carpenter swap was expected and I’m guessing that Rueschhoff to either free up a spot on the 50 contract list, they have 46 after the trade, and/or to give him a chance somewhere else. The Rangers essentially gave him away for nothing, but he didn’t have a future in the organization and probably wasn’t going to be qualified anyway after the season.
