Laviolette on his experience: “I don’t have a recipe. I can’t spit something out to you that you can put in print that tells you why some of the teams I’ve coached in the past have been successful. One of the first things I want to do is change the atmosphere, so that we expect to win every game we play. Before you take the ice, you have to know that you’ve got a chance of winning that game, that you can’t be beaten. That’s half the battle.” (Tampa Bay Times)
Carolina: (2003-04 to 2008-09, 167-22-6-28 regular season record, 16-9 playoff record, 2005-06 Stanley Cup Champ)
Jim Rutherford: “We welcome Peter to the Carolina Hurricanes organization. He brings experience and an aggressive coaching style to the Hurricanes.” (Canes)
Laviolette on what style he wants to play with Carolina: “a very high-tempo game. I want to get in on the forecheck, bang bodies, get pucks to the net, people to the net and in turn, generate more offense.” (News and Record)
Philadelphia: (2009-10 to 2013-14, 145-98-29 regular season record, 23-22 playoff record, 2009-10 Eastern Conference Champion)
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren: “Peter Laviolette brings experience along with a different approach to the game. We look forward to him putting his stamp on the team quickly and getting our team headed in the right direction.” (NHL.com)
Laviolette: “I think that you have to be tough on players. I also believe in the human side of things. I think if you can get to the human side, you can be tough.” (ESPN)
Nashville: (2014-15 to 2019-20, 248-143-60 regular season record, 32-29 playoff record, 2016-17 Western Conference Champs)
Nashville GM David Poile: “Having reached the peak as a Stanley Cup champion, Peter knows the intensity and urgency it will take to help our team reach its ultimate goal. He is a great hockey mind who not only has a winning résumé but has done it with an aggressive offensive philosophy while also excelling in helping young players reach their potential.” (ESPN)
Laviolette: “I love the nucleus of this team, starting on the back end with two of the best players at their positions in defenseman Shea Weber and goaltender Pekka Rinne, in addition to a solid group of dependable veterans and talented, rising young talent.. My challenge will be to impart a system that enables our young forwards to thrive and reach their offensive potential. Being a perennial Stanley Cup contender requires buy-in, passion and commitment from every player on the roster. I can’t wait to get to Nashville and get started on our journey.” (ESPN)
Washington: (2020-21 to 2022-23, 115-78-27 regular season record, 3-8 playoff record)
GM Brian MacLellan: “We feel very fortunate to be able to hire someone of Peter’s caliber and to have him available at a time of need for our organization. His track record with different organizations, he’s been challenged a number of times of having teams that have different personalities in the locker room and on the ice and he’s been able to adapt to different groups and be successful in the league. Peter has a track record of establishing a culture, and it’s one of his priorities. Both me, and I assume the players, (know) that’s a big strength of his moving forward and it’s a big reason why we hired him.” (AP)
Laviolette: “Coming to Washington, that’s my priority is to try and build something where when the players take the ice the truly feel like they’re invincible. I think when you take over a team, you come in with an open mind and a blank slate on the team and the players and the individual personnel. And then from there it’s about building your identity on the ice, setting a standard of what you expect on a daily basis and working together throughout the course of the year to try and prepare yourself for the playoffs. You have a terrific cast of talent that’s big and strong and can play the game aggressive and has a chance to be successful on a nightly basis. I’m excited to go in and be here and be a part of this and add any layer that I can as a coach to try and help get to that next step.” (AP)

Peter’s impressive resumé, which includes winning a Stanley Cup and advancing to the Final with three different teams, has made him one of the most respected coaches in the league. As we move forward in our goal to consistently contend for the Stanley Cup, I am confident that Peter is the right head coach to lead our team.
