Peter Laviolette met with the media following the win over NJ and said (MSG):
- On the game, “It was a good game. I thought both teams played hard and had their moments and at the end I really like fat that our guys stuck with it and we went down by a goal early in the third and just stayed with it. Shesty made some big saves at 2-2, he made some big saves at 3-2 and our guys didn’t, I don’t think we switched our gears too much, we stayed with the plan and eventually got it tied up on a nice goal and pushed ahead.”
- On the Vesey, Goodrow, Pitlick line, “They were really good tonight, heavy on pucks and they found themselves on the offensive zone and generating, heavy on the battles, that is what you want from that line.”
- On the team’s overall play lately, “I think we’ve been playing pretty good hockey, I know that it isn’t always 60 minutes of domination, but no game ever is. I liked the way we started too and came out and played and attacked games. I like the fact that we’ve had to come back in third periods and stayed with it. Guys are working hard to win hockey games and that is all yo ucan ask.”
- On how they defended NJ, “At times I felt good and you are in the offensive zone and pressing and someone slips in real quick and they get behind you…that is when I thought Shesty had some…they scored that goal to go up and there was a moment right away with somebody coming in and he had to make a save and maybe a quick rebound save on that one. I thought that for the most part we did a pretty good job. It’s never going to be perfect.”
- On the calls that went against them, “that is the rule. In all honesty, sometimes I ask myself if you flip the situation around how would you want it to play out and I think they got it right.”
- On Panarin, “He’s been playing so hard and so good and that line again was a threat when they were on the ice, but he’s been great.”
- On Jimmy Vesey, “the line was fantastic and he was the guy on the end with the puck that put it into the net, but the line was really good and like I said, the line made good decisions, they were heavy to play against, turned things over in the offensive zone and generated some and it’s nice, in a big game like tonight against a good team in our division it’s nice to see guys like that chip in and have a really big night.”
- On Shesterkin, “every minute that he went by he looked better and better. There was some…and that is to be expected, he was out for al little bit, but I thought that as the game progressed and I do think that they have guys that can make plays and create or attack and we needed him and I thought he really stepped up.”
