Adam Rotter: This is a bit surprising, though it seems like Adam Edstrom has overtaken Pitlick’s spot in the lineup and Matthew Rempe, who was called up and then sent down, could also be ahead of him on the bottom-six depth chart. Pitlick is a serviceable depth player and 13th forward. The Rangers know what he is and what he brings. Giving Edstrom a shot, especially with less than a month before the deadline, gives the Rangers a chance to add another big body to the bottom-six and see what he can do. Pitlick may stick around as a 13th forward if he clears waivers or he could go to Hartford.
