11:38 AM: Kevin Weekes says that the Rangers are signing Jonathan Quick to a one-year contract extension.
Quick, 38, is 13-5-2 this season for the Rangers and has a .916 save percentage and 2.45 goals against.
He signed a one-year deal with a cap hit of $825,000 last offseason.
Adam Rotter: With how Quick has played this year he certainly deserves a contract extension. I had started to wonder if the Rangers would go down this path and try to extend Quick, but I figured he would wait and see how the year played out to decide whether he wanted to keep playing or retire.
This would likely give Dylan Garand another year to play/start in Hartford before likely coming up and becoming Igor Shesterkin’s backup goalie.
He’s getting a nice raise off close to the league minimum this year, but the salary cap is going up so it shouldn’t make too much of a difference.
