- You just knew that Carolina was going to score on that PP.
- Carolina jumped out of the gate, as expected, and converted off some turnovers and shoddy defensive coverage. Igor Shesterkin was still really good, but he wasn’t able to cover up all those mistakes in the first period.
- Carolina probably deserved the win, but I really felt like this was still going to bend the Rangers way. They started to play much better as the game went on, they didn’t get crazily outshot and after coming back to tie it it felt like they were just going to pull it out.
- Throughout the season you could see from game to game/week to week the steps forward that Alexis Lafreniere was taking. You could say the same about the playoffs. He was probably the Rangers best player tonight and after getting numerous high-quality chances, he ends up scoring off a bank shot.
- I did think, other than the mistakes in the first period, that the Rangers more than held their own in a game that was mostly played at 5-on-5. Carolina has been the better team at 5-on-5 for most of this series, but I thought this was probably the most even game at 5-on-5 and it could have gone their way.
- So now the Rangers head home and have a chance on Monday to advance to the Conference Finals.
