Ruhwedel played in five regular season games and zero playoff games for the Rangers.
He is a right-shot defenseman.
Adam Rotter: This is not very surprising and likely slots Ruhwedel into a competition with Zac Jones for the sixth spot on defense. Ruhwedel didn’t play much after the Rangers acquired him, but obviously they liked him enough to bring him back in a depth role. It’s an interesting contract because the Rangers can bury him in Hartford if need be and since it’s a two-way contract he won’t get his NHL salary. If he was on a one-way contract and then placed on waivers and sent to Hartford then he’d still be paid his NHL salary, but since it’s a two-way contract the Rangers would save actual dollars if he was put in Hartford.
