Adam Rotter:
- Other than those first few minutes this was a pretty dominant for the Rangers. It seemed like it took them a few minutes to find their legs and from there they just took advantage of all of Pittsburgh’s limitations and just took it to them.
- Each line scored a goal but probably none more important than Filip Chytil’s goal as that line was maybe the Rangers best. Unfortunately they ruled it offsides on Will Cuylle’s goal off a phenomenal pass from Kaapo Kakko, but that line was a constant threat and if that line can be consistent then the Rangers will have another dimension that they lacked for most of last season.
- Igor Shesterkin was phenomenal and certainly doesn’t seem bothered by his contract situation. He played tonight as if it was just a continuation from his playoff performance.
- Same with Alexis Lafreniere as he scored off a beautiful rush. Artemi Panarin seemed fine, Chris Kreider looked like Chris Kreider and there was just a lot to like. The PP could have been better, but there isn’t much else to nitpick from tonight.
- The shuffled defense wasn’t much of an issue, but the Penguins didn’t put up a huge fight after the first few minutes.
- Next up is the home opener on Saturday against Utah.
