- This was not nearly the buttoned-up, dominant performance that the Rangers put forth on Wednesday in Pittsburgh. This was sloppy, messy at times and yet I fully believed that the Rangers would eventually tie and probably win this game. They got the tie but not win.
- Six goals against certainly doesn’t look great for Igor Shesterkin, but I’m not sure he got much help on many of them. He still made some big saves, including a big one in OT, but the Rangers can do a lot more to help him. It’s good that the Rangers have an ability offensively to overcome some of their defensive issues, but they know that this isn’t exactly how they want to play.
- Whatever was bugging Artemi Panarin in training camp is certainly behind him to start the season and he has been as dynamic as ever.
- The third line continues to be strong and generating a lot of chances. Will Cuylle is noticeable almost every time he is on the ice.
- Adam Edstrom got ejected, Sam Carrick was in the box for fighting and Matt Rempe only ended up with one shift in the third and just over three minutes overall. With the Rangers losing for most of the second and third the game didn’t really develop for where Rempe could get more minutes, but he was on the ice and was involved with the Rangers getting a goal disallowed. He was in the crease and even though the Utah goalie went up in the crease to initiate the contact, they are almost always going to side with the goalie if someone is in the crease. Hopefully Rempe is back in on Monday and the fourth line can play a more regular shift.
