Adam Rotter:
- Artemi Panarin is sure trying to challenge the notion that Igor Shesterkin is the Rangers best player and deserves to be paid like it. Panarin has just been on fire to start the season. He seems like he is gunning for the 50-goals he didn’t get last year.
- The PP, after a so-so first three games, was also clicking tonight, especially on the second and third PP goals where they maintained possession and then scored.
- It was a shaky start as Detroit had the edge in play and the edge in chances, but the Red Wings couldn’t find a goal and the Rangers cashed in on their opportunities. The Rangers dominated the second period after Detroit scored their first goal and never really let the Red Wings off the mat.
- Ryan Lindgren seems close to returning and the Rangers will be faced with their first real roster decision of the season. Victor Mancini scored tonight and hasn’t looked out of place at all, but Lindgren’s return likely puts him back with Adam Fox and that shifts K’Andre Miller down to probably play with Jacob Trouba and then the third pair would be some combination of Zac Jones, Victor Mancini and Braden Schneider. Schneider is playing on the left side now with Trouba and maybe the Rangers will keep him there so that Mancini can stay in the lineup. Otherwise Zac Jones gets paired with Schneider and Mancini goes down to play on Hartford’s top defense pair.
- Jonathan Quick was solid in his first start of the year.
- Kaapo Kakko had an assist on the Victor Mancini goals…but also three penalties. His line continues to get chances.
- Saturday in Toronto should be a nice early season test.
