- After Artemi Panarin made his case on Thursday as the Rangers best player, Igor Shesterkin took the title back tonight. He was unreal at the start, then the Rangers took over for a while and then Toronto kicked up a few notches in the third period and Shesterkin made highlight reel save after highlight reel save. He was just locked in on the big stage of Saturday night in Toronto and it was reminiscent of his performance against the Leafs three years and one day ago when he stopped 40 of 41.
- Flying under the radar with 5 goals in five games is Chris Kreider. His line with Mika Zibanejad and Reilly Smith seems like they are finding a groove. They do need Mika Zibanejad to start shooting more and two shots on 7 attempts is a good start.
- Matt Rempe was back in the lineup tonight and he and Adam Edstrom played over 7 minutes. I’d like to see Rempe get a little run here or send him to Hartford to play more.
- It was certainly an interesting move for Peter Laviolette to go with five right handed defenseman and shift Victor Mancini to the left side to make way for Chad Ruhwedel. I’m guessing Ryan Lindgren will be back this coming week and so I think Laviolette wanted to get Ruhwedel at least one game before Lindgren probably comes back. Mancini on the left side though could give Peter Laviolette more flexibility to keep him in the lineup, though that would come at the expense of Zac Jones. But are they going to keep eight defenseman once Lindgren is healthy? Mancini is the only defenseman who doesn’t have to pass through waivers, but he hasn’t done anything to come out of the lineup.
