Stats:
Adam Rotter:
- What a third period for the Rangers. The PP clicked, the big guys led the way and Jonathan Quick was solid in getting his 400th career win.
- Those lines I wasn’t crazy about yesterday certainly looked a lot better today. Maybe it’s JT Miller, maybe it’s moving to the wing or maybe it’s just one game, but if Mika Zibanejad gets hot then the Rangers are going to make the playoffs. It’s not as simple as that, especially defensively, but Zibanejad is showing he can still be a lot of the player we expect him to be and if he can continue that the Rangers are going to go on a run.
- JT Miller makes a difference. If he can rub off, even a little, on guys like Alexis Lafreniere, and other young players, in terms of energy and two-way play then it will be a trade that pays off for years to come.
- It’s a much different looking PP but it worked today and they don’t win the game without it. JT Miller is moving all over and that means everyone else is moving and that opens up lanes and seams and then usually goals.
- When the ship was sinking and the defense was non-existent there was a part of me that wondered if Jonathan Quick would get to 400. He’s been a terrific player over the last couple of years and I’m guessing that he’ll have some role in the organization in the future if he wants it.
- It’s a big win. It’s big in the standings but it has to be big mentally for them. They have certainly been a much better team in 2025 than they were the last two months of 2024, but if they lose this game it’s three in a row, everyone else is moving up the standings and who knows what comes next. But it’s a big win, JT Miller has made an impact and whether it’s because of him or because they are their best players, the best players were the best players when they needed them. They still need to go on a run or string together a few winning streaks to get into better position and they should be capable of that.
- They see the Bruins again in a huge game on Wednesday.
