6/5/25 | 5:36PM: The Rangers have announced that Quinn, Sacco and Hennes are all assistant coaches.
9:51AM: Former Rangers coach David Quinn, former Avalanche and Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco and former Penguins assistant Ty Hennes are all expected to join Mike Sullivan’s coaching staff. (Baugh)
On Hennes, the Penguins have said “before his promotion to assistant coach on November 22, 2022, Hennes spent four seasons as the Penguins’ skating and skills development coach. Previously, he assisted the Penguins’ coaching staff with practices, skills sessions and on-ice injury rehabilitation and was an ‘eye in the sky’ during home games. Hennes also worked with injured players returning to play during the 2016 and ’17 Stanley Cup Championship seasons.”
Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, Chris Kreider, Alexis Lafreniere, K’Andre Miller, Zac Jones, Jonny Brodzinski and Igor Shesterkin are the current Rangers that were part of the team in Quinn’s last season as head coach.
Adam Rotter: It’s certainly a staff that Sullivan can hit the ground running with and not need any real time to adjust or get to know someone knew. He and Quinn worked together last season in Pittsburgh and are very close friends going back to Boston University. He and Sacco played together at BU and while they haven’t coached together, Quinn and Sacco coached together when Sacco was in Colorado. Hennes and Sullivan have worked together for a long time in Pittsburgh.
Quinn and Sacco may split special teams duties, Quinn on the PP and Sacco on the PK, and Quinn will likely be in charge of the defense and allow him to work again with Adam Fox and possibly K’Andre Miller. Quinn and Sacco want to be head coaches in the NHL and if they can help get the Rangers turned around then that opportunity could come to them.
