- After those two games at MSG last week where the Rangers lost but were the better team, I figured this was going to be one of those nights that makes up for that and that they’d find a way to win when they didn’t have their best game.
- Instead Minnesota taps in a lose puck in the third period and while the Rangers did finally get one at MSG, they needed more than one.
- The first half of this game was all Minnesota, sort of like how I thought Saturday was going to go in Montreal. The Rangers were much better in the second half of the game but unlike last week when they generated a ton and couldn’t score, they didn’t get nearly as many chances tonight. There wasn’t a lot of flow offensively, part of that is how the Wild defended, but part of it was passing up shots and passing into closed lanes too often.
- This was another one of those nights where the Rangers look like a team that is going to have to work so hard to score. They are doing a lot right to get the chances but, again, at some point those chances need to be converted.
- While they did finally score at MSG and did so quickly to end that streak, they are now 0-4 to start the season at MSG.
- Minnesota does deserve credit, they should be a playoff team, but this is a game that the Rangers could have/should have won. Igor Shesterkin was great again, they weathered the storm to keep the game tied until they found their legs but they didn’t play well enough to get the bounce they needed.
- The Sharks come to MSG on Thursday before they venture out to Western Canada to see Calgary on Sunday.
