Adam Rotter:
- A terrible performance by the Rangers as they for the second time in a few years give the Sharks their first win of the season in OT at MSG.
- You can point to the second period comeback or scoring five goals, but this was last years team. They were slow, lots of missed and blown coverage, wide open players, lazy plays with the puck…and while they didn’t deserve to win, they should have.
- The five goals is great and you need secondary scoring, but three of those goals came from Taylor Raddysh and one came off a terrific move by Juuso Parssinen. They need a lot more offensively from Will Cuylle, from JT Miller and Lafreniere.
- I liked the idea of moving Alexis Lafreniere up to play with Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin and while Zibanejad and Lafreniere connected on that PP goal, that line did not have a great night.
- They played that 3 on 3 OT terribly. They regrouped on that first shift twice and then Mika Zibanejad wanted a change and he passed it back to Shesterkin, but his pass went deep into the Sharks zone and they picked it up, went down, regrouped once, Shesterkin made a save, the Rangers overskated the puck the Sharks had another wide open player score to win it. The Rangers didn’t even get a shot off with their three best offensive players and the Sharks went down with their top guys, shot it and scored.
- It’s just a bad loss that should have been a game where they found a way to win.
- Still winless at MSG and now they head out to Western Canada on Sunday against the Flames.
