- Another clunker for the Rangers as they certainly look to be regressing in all areas, but especially defensively.
- After being so stout to start the year, the Rangers have looked a lot like last years team over the last few games with a bunch of players left open all over the ice and either seemingly no communication or lots of miscommunications.
- But it’s not as if this was like Thursday against San Jose where the Rangers were bad defensively but still scored to make it a game. The Rangers had some chances today and Dustin Wolf made at least two excellent saves, but the Rangers also continued to pass up shots and try to pass the puck into the net.
- The new lines were definitely intriguing and we finally got to see JT Miller and Artemi Panarin together but it didn’t lead to much.
- Noah Laba was by far the Rangers best forward and his line with Will Cuylle and Brennan Othmann was the Rangers best, but Othmann still passed up shots that he needs to take.
- Nothing is going right for Alexis Lafreniere. Pucks are going off him into the Rangers net, he’s screening Shesterkin and he’s missing assignments. If he produced offensively like he’s supposed to then you could forgive some of it, but he’s not producing either. He had a chance or two, but it’s not enough. I’m also not sure why he won’t be put on the left side if he isn’t going to play with Artemi Panarin. He’s proven he can play the right side and while Mike Sullivan has said he likes wingers playing on their offsides, it just still seems like he should go back to his natural side if he isn’t going to pair with Panarin.
- Much like when he missed the puck/shot and the Rangers lost in Toronto, it was very clear and obvious that Calgary was going to go down and score when Zibanejad missed the puck/shot on the PP.
- He won’t do it, but I wonder if missing a game or two might benefit JT Miller since he’s clearly playing hampered right now.
- It’s still early but every game now seems like it has added pressure for the Rangers to show that they are not this team and much more like the team that played great and lost.
- JT Miller’s big return to Vancouver is on Tuesday.
