  • Those first 8 or so minutes seemed like it was as good as it could get for the Rangers…minus actually scoring. They dominated the play, had numerous chances and then they took two penalties, Carolina scored on one and they never found that level again.
  • You could see that once the Rangers didn’t score in that first rush of the game that everyone started pressing and tightened up. Carolina got better as the game went on and the Rangers grew frustrated as the game went on and never came close to threatening again.
  • It did seem like this was going to be like those games against Washington and Edmonton where they were the better team and lost but outside of those first few minutes that wasn’t the case. The Rangers had one shot on goal in the second half of the game basically and that, obviously, isn’t a winning formula. Too many forced plays
  • Defensively the Rangers were pretty consistent and good, but offensively the Rangers need something, whether it’s a call up, more line changes, the return of Vincent Trocheck or maybe just seeing the puck cross the goal line. Trocheck seems close but expecting him to be the savior, or anyone from Hartford, is wrong. Trocheck will certainly help, but the team will go nowhere if Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, JT Miller and Alexis Lafreniere don’t score.
  • It’s amazing how good the Rangers PP looks the first time or two and then the frustration takes over and they can barely move the puck.
  • 0-5-1 at home to start the year, with four shutouts in those seven games is almost impossible to believe. But that is where the Rangers are right now.
  • They head to Detroit on Friday and then they get their next chance for a win at home on Saturday when they face the Islanders.
