Stats:

Adam Rotter:

  • That was an unexpected and exciting way to beat the Devils with Igor Shesterkin fighting Jacob Markstrom in the third period.
  • Shesterkin was great in net and showed not only his competitiveness but his toughness. We have seen over the years that he isn’t afraid to throw a show or mix it up when he’s been bumped, he did it again tonight, Makrstrom challenged him and Shesterkin dropped him. For as impressive as Shesterkin has been over the years, this is at the top of his most impressive moments. It’s wrong to say that the injuries to Shesterkin is why the Rangers are where they are, but if Shesterkin is healthy next season, and the Rangers play with the kind of energy and enthusiasm they have since the Olympic break, then they are going to be in the playoff mix.
  • Winning is probably the biggest reason but the Rangers look like they are having fun again. They have new blood, new enthusiasm and energy from guys like Tye Kartye and Jaro Chmelar, we are seeing what Gabe Perreault can be and Alexis Lafreniere continues to produce. There is no pressure in these games and it’s wrong to put too much stock into them, but all you can do is hope that these are building blocks towards turning things around starting next season.
  • Mika Zibanejad was the right choice to win the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award this season. He’s been the team MVP and their most consistent and best player.
  • They see Montreal on Thursday.
