  • Dylan Garand was outstanding tonight. He was very Igor Shesterkin-like tonight and is the main reason why the Rangers picked up one point.
  • But you can’t win if you don’t score and the Rangers didn’t generate enough at 5-on-5 and couldn’t convert on any of the three PPs they had in the third period. They had some chances but it wasn’t nearly enough. Defensively they were better than Thursday but that is a low bar to clear. They were better but still weren’t as sharp as they have been at times this season and without Garand playing as well as he did the game would have been over earlier.
  • The Alexis Lafreniere/Pavel Dorofeyev swap was expected after Dorofeyev didn’t look great when he was with Mika Zibanejad and Gabe Perreault. I thought Dorofeyev was okay, he had two shots on goal and four blocked, but the Rangers as a team didn’t generate enough.
  • The PK was fantastic tonight but the PP continues to leave a lot to be desired. When you are a team that is partly built around the PP carrying you and you get three chances in the third, you need to score.
  • I was a little surprised that Jaro Chmelar was sent down, wasn’t surprised that Taylor Raddysh was called up to replace him but was surprised that Raddysh played over Matt Rempe tonight. Chmelar needs to play and he already scored tonight in Hartford and it probably won’t be long before he’s back. But I’d play Rempe and give him a few games to see if he can find a rhythm of sorts.
  • It’s a bit of the reverse from last season as the Rangers are playing great at MSG but struggling to score on the road. They have lost three straight on the road and in the four losses this season, all on the road, they only have two goals.
  • It was a much better game for the Rangers than Thursday but, again, that was a low bar to clear. They were in a position to score and probably win with their PP chances in the third but couldn’t convert. But the biggest thing was Dylan Garand responding and playing terrific.
  • They play the Ducks on Monday at MSG.
