Stats:

Adam Rotter:
- This turned from what was going to be a very disappointing and frustrating loss into a nice come from behind win.
- The Rangers needed a response in the third after a very lackluster second period where the Flyers outworked them and took the lead. The Rangers struggle so much to score and create offense that when they are second to pucks and losing battles they are almost certainly going to lose. They were better in the third, a bit more desperate, started to pressure, drew a penalty, tied it and then Adam Fox found a wide open Tye Kartye to score the winner.
- Kartye has been such a great pick up and while he’s probably playing a bit of a higher role on the second line, he and JT Miller work really well together. Maybe it’s just the number, but there is a lot of Ryan Callahan’s style of play in Kartye. He hustles, he’s physical, he’s engaged and there is more offense than you expect. He’s a heart and soul player and is likely already the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award winner for this season.
- That tying goal is why and who the Rangers acquired with Pavel Dorofeyev to be. He hit another post in the first period, was losing the puck along the boards and got demoted in the third period to the bench for a shift or two and then to the third line. He had a couple of chances with the third line and the Rangers got that PP opportunity, Mika Zibanejad fed him a pass where he had time and space and fired one in to tie the game. Again, all you can hope is that it gets Dorofeyev and the PP going, but that type of shot is hopefully the first of many to come.
- Dylan Garand was solid again in net and did enough to win, or not lose it, for the Rangers.
- Jonas Korpisalo played in Hartford last night, he’ll likely play tomorrow or Saturday in Hartford and is expected to join the Rangers on their trip to Seattle or Western Canada. James Reimer was placed on waivers and will stay the back up until Korpisalo is ready, but the Rangers will finally get a chance to see Korpisalo soon. My guess is that Korpisalo and Garand will split the starts for a while and how that goes will determine if the Rangers decide to make another move for a goalie.
- This was just a game that the Rangers needed to have. The Flyers have been struggling to start the year, the Rangers started the game well and then the second period, while not awful like some periods prior to their little break, was just so frustrating and demoralizing. You want to see them build on their lead and take it to a team like the Flyers but the Flyers raised their game and the Rangers didn’t. But in the third they started playing better and found a way to come back and win. It’s their first comeback win of the season and a big win.
- They now head to Seattle on Saturday, Edmonton on Monday, Calgary on Wednesday and then Vancouver next Friday.
