- With the way this game started I was getting worried we were going to be in for another game like a few weeks ago against the Bruins where the Rangers were just flat out embarrassed. But the Rangers woke up in the second period and were by far the better team in the second half of the game. In some ways it was the opposite of Thursday where they were much better early and fell off late.
- It’s a nice comeback win and while the Rangers are still going to lose more than they win through the rest of the season, Igor Shesterkin is going to keep them in games and win them some. You also want to see them play hard and with a certain kind of style or attitude that the players who are going to remain can bring into next season. They did that in the second half of the game.
- Gabe Perreault had a number of opportunities but wasn’t getting any sort of puck luck today. The hope is that he continues to get the opportunities and starts cashing in. The worry is that we’ve seen numerous top prospects in the last number of years continue to get chances and then not cash in on them. It’s far too early to make any real judgment on Perreault as he hasn’t even played 30 games yet, but there are a lot of encouraging signs.
- So now the question is whether this was Vincent Trocheck’s last game as a Ranger. I could see Trocheck continuing to play, until or unless a deal is truly close, because he’s under contract and could still stay past the deadline and then move at the draft. He has more value now because of an extra playoff run someone would get with him, but unlike with Artemi Panarin where the Rangers sat him out to avoid injury and getting nothing, the Rangers can roll the dice a bit with Trocheck since the opportunity to move him will still exist past the deadline.
