Adam Rotter:
- That was fun and encouraging to see. Gabe Perreault with two points, should be three but they took an assist away, Alexis Lafreniere two points, Noah Laba two points and even newcomer Tye Kartye with two points. Mika Zibanejad had three points and while he’s likely not going to be around next season, it doesn’t hurt his value that Vincent Trocheck had three assists.
- It’s really encouraging to see how Perreault is getting better game by game. He made a great play on the second goal with a check/board battle win, he scored at the net and made a terrific pass for Zibanejad’s second goal. He has 13 points in 30 games but he’s just making plays and noticeable when he’s out there and has the puck.
- There are a lot of caveats, it was the Flyers, it’s a game that doesn’t matter, the pressure is off, but Alexis Lafreniere looks like a different player. He’s playing with so much confidence, he looks more assertive and a lot more like the player we expected he was going to be following the 2024 playoffs. Can he keep it up? We’ll see, but hopefully he has tapped into something that he can build on and carry into the future.
- Noah Laba has been fine this season as a rookie on the third line. But he’s starting to make some more plays and maybe that has to do with Ty Kartye joining. Kartye brings a lot of energy and physicality. I’d prefer that someone like Brett Berard or even Jaro Chmelar was in the spot next to them instead of Conor Sheary, but that trio had a strong game.
- I still think that the Rangers are bound to lose more games than they win the rest of the way, but if they can be competitive, stay in games and get production out of the guys that are staying then maybe this misery of a season can end on a positive note.
- They see the Flames tomorrow in a game with some lottery implications and the Rangers one point ahead of Calgary in fourth to last.
