The Rangers have signed 31-year old winger Oliver Bjorkstrand to a one-year, $4.5 million dollar deal. (Walker)

He had 12 goals and 20 assists last season for Tampa in 13:38 per game.

Bjorkstrand is a six-time 20-goal scorer including 21 between Seattle and Tampa in 2024-25.

He has a career shooting percentage 11.6% shooting percentage and last season he shot 9.2%.

In 49 career playoff games he had 10 goals and 10 assists.

After being traded to Tampa in 2025, Bjorkstrand underwent surgery for compartment syndrome in his thigh.

Adam Rotter: It’s not a bad signing on a one-year deal for a player who had a down year last season but was coming off surgery and was on a Tampa team that primarily had him in the bottom-six and then out of the lineup at times. There is definitely a world where he is in the Rangers top-six, with Will Cuylle on the third line, and second PP unit. But it’s a one-year deal and so if it doesn’t work out then the Rangers can either try to move him for a small return at the deadline or just cut bait. The fact that in this market he’s only getting a one-year deal is a victory for the Rangers. Maybe he is looking to have a big year and re-enter free agency next year and get a bigger contract, but it’s another short-term, pretty low risk move. Alternatively he could provide some scoring punch on a third line, but starting him in the top-six and putting him with offensive players seems like the right move at the start. It also allows the Rangers to keep players like Liam Greentree and other forward prospects in Hartford and allow them to develop.
