What David Quinn said after the loss to the Devils

David Quinn met with the media following the loss to the Devils and said (MSG):

  • On the game, “There were a lot of good things tonight. It looked like we ran out of gas in the third, give them a lot of credit all night long. Hank gave us a chance in the third to find our way and maybe take advantage of an opportunity but it wasn’t to be. I liked our first two periods, didn’t love our third, thought they really controlled the tempo but Hank gave us a chance.”
  • On the first period, “I liked our first 6-7 minutes and felt like we established our forecheck and spent time in the offensive zone and did a lot of good things. I thought we got sloppy as the period wore on, after they got their goal I thought we were pressing and doing things we weren’t doing earlier in that period and it cost us more time in our own end and it was unfortunate.”
  • On the fights and toughness, “this is a contact sport and those things happen, none of it’s planned. The thing that surprised me was how intense the game was for two teams out of the playoffs but we are rivals and I’m sure it was an important game for them as it was for us, we had a chance to sweep them. It was a heated game for sure, give them a lot of credit thought they played well, with energy, physical and it was a lot different game than yesterday for sure.”
  • On falling behind 2-0 to the Devils but tying it, “I don’t like that recipe but we manage to dig ourselves out of the whole we just weren’t able to do it tonight. Each game takes on it’s own personality, I thought we started well, had some great chances early just weren’t able to capitalize. I thought Wood made a heck of a shot on the first goal, we blew our coverage on the PK and then we are down 2-0. I thought we battled back and unfortunately we got that almost goal to tie in the first. I liked our second even though they out-shot us they only had two chances and we had some golden opportunities we couldn’t take advantage of.”
  • On Howden, “I thought he had another really good night, noticeable shift in and out, did some real good things offensively and defensively too.”
  • On Buchnevich, “good, we kept him out for precautionary reasons, pretty good chance we we will see him on Wednesday.”
  • On Chytil at the end of the game, “he went to hit a guy and the guy reverse checked him and surprised him a bit, I haven’t talked to our trainer yet but it looks like an upper body situation and I’ll find out more when I get back to the locker room.”
  • On Henrik Lundqvist and the plan for the end of the year, “I’m gonna play again, might even play him two of the next three. I’d like him to get 20 wins. We will talk more about that and he played well tonight and we had a chance to win a good but we turned it over and they took advantage of it.”
  • On Brendan Lemiuex, “I thought he was better than he had been the last few games, a step in the right direction for him.”
