Updates from Rangers practice on Saturday (Sunday Updates)

10/27/19 |  6:35PM: Jesper Fast will not play tonight due to personal reasons. (NYR)

Micheal Haley step into the Rangers lineup to replace Fast.

6PM: David Quinn spoke on Sunday and said (NYR):

  • On Strome’s status, “ready to go.”
  • On splitting Mika and Panarin, “it was more of a team approach as opposed to splitting two guys. We were struggling and everybody was in a different mindset, no matter who they were playing with and I think that was one of the keys to the game. Guys were more concerned with putting forth their best effort physically and mentally and when you do that you give yourself a chance to win.”
  • On Jesper Fast, “he gives that line such an honest effort offensively and defensively, there are different ways to create offense, skill is a big component of creating offense but one of the things Quickie does, he’s smart, doesn’t put a line in a touch position, creates space for his linemates, goes to the net and he has enough skill to compliment that approach. That is why he is effective and can play on a line like that.”
  • On DeAngelo to the top PP unit, “Tony has always had number one PP offensive ability, he’s just been in situations where the opportunity didn’t hasn’t itself, that isn’t the case here right now. A couple of reasons, our PP hasn’t been great lately, I think he has a little bit of mojo going right now, he feels really good about himself like he should, he’s done a real good job from an offensive perspective over the last two weeks and with our units kind of struggling, it might give us some different results.”
  • Do you need more movement on the PP, “yea, we have gotten very stagnant and predictable and one of the things when we got going, the thing I loved about our PP in the first few games was that there was an unpredictability to it, we were going low to high, guys weren’t standing in the same spots. It seems right now we are tied to playing a certain position and looking for a certain play regardless of what the PKers are doing. We have to do a better job of looking at what the PK is trying to take away and give.”
