Alex Georgiev in net against the Wild

7:50PM: Marc Staal has the flu and will be out. Brendan Smith will take his spot on defense. (Stephenson)

4:45PM: David Quinn spoke after the morning skate and said (NYR):

  • On Shesterkin, “he’s a little bit day to day. There is a lower -body issue so he’s day to day. He was going to play. It’s day to day, see how it goes.”
  • On the three goalies, “I think that when you get three goalies and you are in the situation we were in you are a little sensitive to everybody and give everybody an opportunity and see how this unfolds and I thought that everyone had ample opportunity and a chance to state their case and I just felt that Igor had made the most impact and was in a position to kind of ride him for a while.”
  • Is Shesterkin the number one, “yes, that is the situation we are in because of his play, for sure.”
  • On Ryan Lindgren, “we knew we had a big time competitor who played with an edge and is physical and one of the things that has grown is his skating and his puck decisions and puck management. He has done a really good job of getting us out of our end, his agility has been real good, his stick has gotten real good. He takes away passing lanes, he’s really put himself in a better position mobility and agility wise because of his stick. He’s been very coachable and a big part of our team.”
  • On Lindgren getting into it with Laine the other night, “you can’t back down from anybody, particular the top players on the opponent. He’s never backed down from anybody, regardless of their size or stature. You need someone who will play in your face hockey and he’s done that.”

2:16PM: Alex Georgiev will be the Rangers starting goalie tonight against the Wild. (NYR)

Georgiev last played against Buffalo on 2/7, stopping 25 of 28 shots in a loss to the Sabres.
