2020 Draft

Carolina eliminated from playoffs, Rangers pick won’t be worse than 24th

The Boston Bruins eliminated the Carolina Hurricanes from the 2020 playoffs and the 1st round pick that Carolina sent the Rangers in the Brady Skjei trade won’t be lower than 24th overall.

The exact pick won’t be finalized until after the second round of the playoffs and the teams advancing to the Conference Finals have been determined. explains the draft order for playoff teams as, “non-division winning teams eliminated in the first two rounds of the playoffs were seeded in inverse order of regular-season points, followed by the four division winners.”

The Rangers also own the #1 overall pick in the draft.

Adam Rotter: 16, with Montreal very likely losing to Philly, 17 (Chicago) and 18, with Arizona about to be eliminated, are set. Columbus was just knocked out, so the absolute highest the Rangers could pick would be #20 and the lowest would be 24 based upon how far Calgary, Vancouver and the Islanders go. That only gets to 23, so Dallas may also play a role despite the fact that they had more points in the regular season than Carolina, but a lower points percentage.
