What Gerard Gallant said after the win over the Isles

Gerard Gallant spoke after the Rangers OT win over the Islanders and said (NYR):

  • On Ryan Strome, “He’s gonna be fine, just the upper body, but nothing too serious, we don’t think.”
  • Could he miss the opener, “I don’t think but they will know more tomorrow, but I don’t think so.”

  • What happened to Rooney, “just got, I don’t know, punched in the mouth, bleeding lip, nothing serious there at all.”
  • What do you want the team to take from the last few games, “Yeah, I think we’re getting ready, I mean the last three games we played pretty good hockey and against pretty good hockey teams and so I’m pretty excited. I mean, again, they’re exhibition games they don’t count, but I liked the way we go as a team and we play this style that I want us to play a little bit more, and they’re getting better and they’re getting ready for the season and that’s what it’s all about, but it was good to win a game like tonight, it was an wmotional game in the third period they come back and we went ahead again so it was good to finish it off,  the power play and special teams was pretty good for us tonight.”
  • On the learning curve with the system, “well it’s gone good, I mean like I said, it takes time, I mean there’s not a big difference in the systems, but there’s a little bit obviously and so you know guys are just used to doing what they do and I know that they’re a creature of habit and they do that all the time so they’re just. And again, I don’t think it’s a big, big deal, it’s not a big big difference but it time and they’ve been good the last couple of games.”
  • On Chytil getting three, “a lot of confidence for him, for sure he’s played really good the last few games and he’s a guy that wants more ice time and keep doing what he’s doing. He wants to play center, we want them at center, all that good stuff so he’s played great tonight and buried his chances.”
  • On Georgiev, “real good and solid. Not much chance on some of those goals they scored, but I thought he was solid.”
