The Rangers have announced that Morgan Barron and Vitali Kravtsov have been sent to Hartford.
Greg McKegg was sent down earlier today.
The Rangers roster for opening night is:
Forwards (13): Sammy Blais, Filip Chytil, Julien Gauthier, Barclay Goodrow, Dryden Hunt, Kaapo Kakko, Chris Kreider, Alexis Lafreniere, Artemi Panarin, Ryan Reaves, Kevin Rooney, Ryan Strome, Mika Zibanejad
Defensemen (8): Adam Fox, Libor Hajek, Ryan Lindgren, Nils Lundkvist, K’Andre Miller, Patrik Nemeth, Jarred Tinordi, Jacob Trouba
Goaltenders (2): Alexandar Georgiev, Igor Shesterkin
Adam Rotter: I think that the Rangers are using their flexibility to get down to 23 and that is why Kravtsov and Barron, who don’t have to pass through waivers, were sent down. I’d expect both to be called back up in the next few weeks, but for now they were the easy choices to make. The Rangers must believe that Libor Hajek would get claimed on waivers and they are likely looking to deal him rather than keep eight defensemen. Julien Gauthier will get his chance next to Filip Chyil and Barclay Goodrow, but I’m not sure how long his leash will be. Gauthier certainly played well enough to stay, but that was Vitali Kravtsov’s spot.
Ultimately, except for Gauthier over Kravtsov, this was the expected roster coming into camp, so it’s not much of a surprise.
