Gerard Gallant met with the media following the loss to Edmonton and said (MSG, NYR):

  • On the game “Disappointed, no doubt, the way it happened. We played a great 35 minutes and then we sort of started watching them a bit.”

  • On how they played, “a little too passive. When you give teams time and space they are going to make their plays, especially that team with their talent. We played too much in our d-zone the last 25-minutes of the game and it caught up to us.”
  • On the first half of the game, “it was great, the first 35-minutes was great. We played fast, won foot races to pucks and then once we get up 4-1 and they score that PP goal it was downhill from there.”
  • On getting the lead back in the third, “yea, you felt good about it, but you knew they were going to come. They have those two world class players and they were pressing us and forechecking us hard and unfortunately for us McDavid makes a spectacular play on the tying goal.”
  • On their PP, “the first PP goal they scored we did a real good job early and then I think they scored, I don’t know, 30 seconds left on a real good shot, but I thought the PK did a good job the first 30 on that one. That is what happens, you gotta kill for two minutes and they are pretty dangerous on the PP.”
  • On Georgiev, “he got peppered, so.”
  • On Lafreniere on the fourth line, “are you kidding me? Like, seriously? Seriously? The kid played tonight, give it a rest….I thought he was fine, thought he was. Like there is nothing more than Lafreniere tonight? We scored some good goals, played some pretty good hockey and you are going to bring up Lafreniere, again? Give the kid a break.”
