What Gerard Gallant said after the win over Buffalo

Gerard Gallant met with the media following the win over Buffalo and said (MSG, NYR):

  • On the game, “It was sloppy in the second period, we didn’t get off to a great start in the first period either. Like I said, it was one of those games, but we found a way to get two points at the end.”
  • More on the game, “I think we had 30-something shots and were putting pucks to the net. Perfect example, I think they scored two goals from the point and K’Andre’s goal was from the point. You get some traffic and shoot pucks and some good things happen. It was a wild five minutes in the middle of that second period, for sure.”
  • On pulling Georgiev, “nothing, just coaches decision.”
  • On his conversation with Zibanejad at the end of the game, “He was yelling at the ref, I don’t know why, he thought like there should have been a penalty in the neutral zone. I told him that there are .4 seconds left, the game is over, leave the ref alone.”

  • On Panarin’s game, “He played really good, the last 4-5 games he’s been one of our best players and really jumping and making great passes and I like what I see from him and he seemed pretty happy on the ice. He was a key guy for us tonight.”
  • On Chytil and Kakko, “definitely, they are both playing well. Chytil had a couple of great chances tonight driving the net and it’s good things you are seeing, that redirection where the goalie made an incredible glove save on him, just go to the net hard and he’s had some chances and I really like how they are playing and their games are coming up and that is exactly what we need to be a good team.”
  • Is it just more confidence, “Definitely. A little more experience and more games, Fil was out for a week there, he missed some time and came back and he’s played really well. It’s confidence and maturing a little bit, he looks really good.”
  • On moving Goodrow to center, “I just thought we were flat. Goody is a good center and he’s good on faceoff and I just wanted to change the makeup of our lineup a little bit, to be honest with you and I actually liked what I saw, so we stayed like that for most of the game.”
  • On moving Dryden Hunt up, “I don’t know what we are going to do next game, but I definitely like it, the coaches talked about it, Hunt’s been a good player for us right from the get-go, played different roles, played the fourth line and a little bit of a different role. I like what we brings, he has some offensive touch and can really shoot the puck, so it could be a possibility for sure.”
  • Where would Ryan Lindgren rank on your potential game winning scorers, “First! Lindy is a smart hockey player and he knew that time was running out, so why not go to the net? There is no chance they are going to get a chance to get a chance, so it was a smart play by him.”
  • Is it rewarding to see a guy like that get rewarded, “he plays that role, blocks shots, does everything for us on the back end and when he gets a chance to score a big goal like that it’s great for our team.”
