Gerard Gallant met with the media following the win over Ottawa and said (MSG, NYR):

  • On the game, “It was a different game tonight, there wasn’t a whole lot of chances and then all of a sudden in the third period they got 3 or 4 real good chances, we had some chances on our PP. I thought it was good goaltending at both ends, solid defensive game for both teams and a really low scoring game. Fortunately we came out on top.”

  • On Panarin, “he’s a great player, he’s a star player for us, makes those great passes and tonight he shoots the puck and buries the winning goal on the PP. He’s a big part of our group and, obviously, when the PP is going like they are going and to win another hockey game for us is huge.”
  • On Shesterkin’s empty net attempt, “He had a lot of room, he handles the puck as well as any goalie in the league from what I’ve seen and there was no one in front of him, he had lots of room. We trust him, he’s won a lot of games for us. If they happen to knock one down and score on us, we’ll move on from that, but I enjoyed it, I wish it would have went in the net like everybody else.”
  • On Shesterkin, “He’s been great since the first game he played. He’s outstanding, makes strong saves for us, a key guy on our hockey team and when we have a let down he bails us out.”
  • On the PP chances, “it’s huge, I think we had two PPs total tonight, they buried the first one on a great shot by bread and the second one we had 2 or 3 real good chances. We have skill on our PP and it’s been going real good this year, so far, and just gotta keep it going and it won us a big game tonight.”
