Gerard Gallant met with the media following the win over Anaheim and said (MSG, NYR):
- On the third period, “We had a real good third, obviously, a lot of chances and Gibson is a real good goalie and made some key saves, but fortunately for us we got to tie it up and a big win in overtime. A good game for us overall, the first and second were okay, both teams trading a few chances, but not a lot happening.”
- What is it about this teams ability to come back, “I think the skill level and talent is there, they are never going to quit, 3-2 game in your own building and you are getting a lot of chances and shots. They feel comfortable playing those games, I wish we were up by two goals by that point, but you find a way. When you are having a good year like we are having you find a way to win those games, sometimes.”
- On Fox, “He was really good tonight, he got back to his game and felt pretty good out there and you could really see the difference, he played really good.”
- On Brodzinski, “He’s playing great, killing some penalties for us, obviously that goal was a great shot, he made a terrific shot on a good goaltender, he’s doing a good job, forechecking, fast out there, very noticeable every shift he is on the ice.”
- On Chytil playing with more authority, “I really liked his game. We talked about it after the Dallas game, I thought that was his best game of the year, for me. He played a good, strong, physical game, did everything strong with the puck and, again, tonight he looked real good, looked confident and that is going to be real key for us.”
- On the PP, “The first couple, Mika missed the net on a few that he usually hits the net, he missed a couple of chances so the execution wasn’t great, a few times, but for Kreider to get that big one to tie it was huge for us, no doubt.”
- On Georgiev making saves early, “It makes him feel good to touch some pucks. It’s unfortunate, the first goal goes off our body and the second goal he didn’t see it at all, one of our guys screened him out high and there was traffic at the net. I thought he looked, solid and comfortable tonight and that is a good sign for him.”
- Are you more comfortable rolling four lines when guys like Chytil and Brodzinski are playing well, “For the first half of the game we rolled the lines pretty regular…the big guys want to get on the ice a little bit more and you can feel that on the bench too. Sometimes…Reavo and them didn’t play much in the last part of the game and they missed a few shifts here and there, but that is what we do as coaches and you try to get a feel for the team and I just got the other guys in the game a little bit more, that is part of it, I guess.”
