Gerard Gallant met with the media following the loss to Montreal and said (NYR, MSG):
- On the game, “we just kept finding a way to give them that extra goal and that is what happened at the end. But, you know what, no one got hurt, that was the key thing tonight and we played pretty well overall and got through the game. I don’t know if it was exciting for the fans or not….”
- Was it always the plan to rest guys or was it decided after last night, “Something we decided after the Carolina game.”
- On Mika sitting and breaking his consecutive game streak, “I don’t care about consecutive games or….the guys don’t care about that. The guys care about Monday or Tuesday coming up, that is the bottom-line. Chris Kreider has 52-goals and the record is a couple away, it would be great, but that is not the most important thing and they all bought into that.”
- Are the playoffs the start of a new season, “I agree 100%. I think everything that happened in the regular season is behind you and you have to start over again. No matter if you dominated one team or the other team dominated you, I think it’s a new season, that is the way I look at it. Gotta get ready for it and play well.”
- Do you plan on resting different guys, “I don’t think so, we’ll see what comes up and talk about it tomorrow and see where our lineup is at, but we haven’t decided that 100%.”
- Do you put any stock into three losses in a row, “not at all, nothing. Did I want to win tonight? Yes, when it was 3-3? Of course, but nothing at all, no. We can’t move anywhere.”
