7/12/22 | Nemeth is a candidate to be bought out if the Rangers can’t move him before today’s buyout period ends. (Johnston)
7/6/22 | Patrik Nemeth has two-years remaining on his deal and a cap hit of $2.5 million.
Larry Brooks writes in the NY Post that a buyout of Nemeth is “becoming more likely” by Tuesday’s deadline.
If the Rangers were to buy out the final two-years of Nemeth’s contract they would save $1.5 million this year and $2.5 million next year but would also have the following cap hits:
- 2022-23: $1 million
- 2023-24: 0
- 2024-25: $1 million
- 2024-46: $1 million
Nemeth played in 63 games during the regular season for the Rangers (2 goals, 5 assists, minus 9 rating, 16:38 per game) and five in the playoffs before being a healthy scratch from Game Six against Pittsburgh on.
Adam Rotter: This always seemed like the right move. Nemeth just didn’t work out and he makes too much money to be a 6/7 defenseman for this team.
