12:35 PM: Andrew Copp is signing a five-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings and will have a cap hit of $5.625 million.

Copp is from Michigan.

The Rangers signed Vincent Trocheck to a seven-year deal worth $5.625 million.

Dave Poulin said on TSN, “I’m a little confused by Copp/Trocheck. You get Copp for the same money and two-years less, unless he’s going to Detroit. Because if you are New York, you’re not taking Copp at two less years for the exact same money as Trocheck?”

Adam Rotter: I think that it must come down to Copp wanting to be in Detroit or the Rangers, for some reason, thinking Trocheck is a much better fit. If Copp wanted to go home then that is what it is and maybe the Rangers only had a shot at keeping him by overpaying and giving him a cap hit over $6 million. It just seems odd that the player you brought in at the deadline and who performed really well signs for the same amount and two fewer years than the player you just brought in.
