3:46 PM: The Rangers have confirmed the Halak signing.
12:58 PM: The Rangers have signed goalie Jaroslav Halak to a one-year deal worth $1.55 million to back up Igor Shesterkin.
Halak, 37, was 4-7-2 (.903 save percentage, 2.94 GAA) for Vancouver last season in 17 games and 9-6-4 (.905 save percentage, 2.53 GAA) for Boston in 2020-21.
In 35 career games against the Rangers, Halak was 24-9-1 with a .927 save percentage and 2.33 GAA.
Adam Rotter: Halak has spent his entire career owning the Rangers so it will be nice to see him on the other side. The issue with Halak comes down to his age, injuries and how much he has left. The goalie market went quick with Martin Jones going to Seattle and Thomas Greiss going to St. Louis and Halak fit their terms of a one-year deal and manageable cap hit of $1.55 million. The Rangers probably need a third-string goalie
