Adam Rotter: Hunt seems like the odd-man out when the roster is healthy and the Rangers can’t just keep carrying 23 players. Hunt is a depth player and someone that Gerard Gallant has used up and down the lineup, but at the moment he is 14 of 14 on the depth chart. He’s a little bit of a different player than Jimmy Vesey, but Vesey is better overall and cost $12,500 less on the cap.

It will be interesting to see which player ends up being the scratch if everyone is healthy. It’s probably Ryan Reaves or Jimmy Vesey, with Vitali Kravtsov as another, but less likely option. Kravtsov needs to play and the Rangers need to know what they are getting with him and he should slot in next to Filip Chytil and Sammy Blais. That kicks Barclay Goodrow down to the fourth line with Ryan Carpenter and maybe a match up driven decision on Reaves vs Vesey. There are definitely games where you want Reaves in the lineup, but Vesey brings more potential on a nigh to night basis, so it will be up to Gerard Gallant to figure out what will work best.
