With Tyler Pitlick being out week-to-week, the Rangers have called up Brennan Othmann from Hartford.
Othmann has nine goals and 14 points in 28 games for Hartford. Six of Othmann’s nine goals came in a four-game streak and since that streak ended he hasn’t scored in nine games.
Adam Rotter: Othmann could debut tomorrow against Chicago and it will be interesting to see where he slots in. He could just slot into a spot on the third line and either replace Jonny Brodzinski or put Brodzinski in the middle and shuffling Nick Bonino to the fourth line. Another option, and one more intriguing, would be shifting Blake Wheeler down to the third line and putting Othmann up with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. Othamnn has offensive talent and a shot that he showed off in training camp. Peter Laviolette has been creative in slotting players who are called up from Hartford. Brodzinski got called up and went into a more offensive role and succeeded for a few games before being shifted down. I could definitely see Laviolette putting Othmann into that spot on the Zibanejad line to try and get him going, but I could also see Laviolette shuffling the bottom-six and keeping Wheeler, who has been better at times, in the top spot.
