The Ottawa Senators have traded former Ranger Vladimir Tarasenko to the Florida Panthers for a 2024 4th round pick that can become a 2026 third round pick if Florida wins the Cup and a 2025 3rd round pick. Ottawa is also retaining 50% of his salary.
Tarasenko signed a one-year deal with Ottawa and had a full no-trade clause.
The Panthers were reportedly his “preferred destination” so that he could be closer to his family in Florida. (Garrioch)
Adam Rotter: Based off what Ottawa is getting back for Tarasenko, it sure seems like he had his eyes only set for Florida. The Rangers could have offered something similar with draft picks and conditional picks, as most other teams probably could have, but Tarasenko was in control and seemed to want to head to the Panthers. It’s a pretty low price for Florida to pay, but Ottawa didn’t have much leverage if Tarasenko only had one place in mind.
