- A bad loss in a very big game against a team right around them in the standings.
- You grab the lead four times, you score on the PP, the PK is perfect, you get goals from three of the players that are supposed to be your best and you lose. You just can’t blow the lead four times and expect to win. Points in eight straight is great, but they had the ability to get two tonight and they gave it away.
- Jonathan Quick was outstanding tonight and deserved to pick up his 400th career win, but his teammates let him down and reverted back to defense optional hockey at times and especially in the third period. Montreal just dominated the third period, tied the game and then picked up the win in OT.
- I give Montreal credit. They are fast, skilled and played the kind of urgency that you’d love to see the Rangers play with most nights.
- They did have chances, especially two huge ones in OT that Montreal stopped, but they couldn’t find a way to get that insurance goal.
- This loss doesn’t take away all the progress the Rangers have made since the calendar turned to 2025, but it shows that they are still very far from where they are supposed to be.
- The next two are big as well with Ottawa, four points ahead, on Tuesday and then the Flyers, who they are tied with, on Thursday.
