- Another disappointing and frustrating loss. They had more than enough chances in the second period to tie the game. Freddy Andersen made a couple of big saves but the Rangers missed the net on other shots, misplayed the puck or passed it in a shooting situation. At 1-0 the game still seemed attainable, but once Carolina turned that Vincent Trocheck non-shot/pass attempt to K’Andre Miller into their second goal the game seemed over.
- That was only further confirmed with Carolina scoring two more in the first 2:30 of the second period.
- Too much of what caused the Rangers to fall down the standings was present in this game. Turnovers leading directly to goals, being outworked for pucks and leaving guys wide open. They played right into how Carolina wanted to play.
- It’s hard to watch this Rangers PP. For so long the PP always seemed to know what to do, the puck was moved with a confidence that it was going to end up in the back of the net. Now they look so discombobulated that everyone just forces the puck to Artemi Panarin.
- Igor Shesterkin was fantastic in a game where he wasn’t getting a ton of help. He gave the Rangers a chance, especially in the second period and was let down by his teammates.
- With the Rangers now off until Saturday the focus shifts to whether the roster will be the same when they take the ice in Boston. When they were winning the trades could wait, but two losses in a row and with such a small margin for error makes you wonder if Chris Drury tries to do something with a few days off.
- They go to Boston on Saturday and then host Vegas on Sunday. 2 of the next 3 are against a Bruins team they are chasing.
