- It’s a good thing that the Rangers won’t see Colorado again, unless it’s in the Finals, because it’s the second time in a few weeks where the Rangers let points go because of a late Colorado goal. In Colorado the Avs tied it to send it to OT and today the Rangers had the PP chance to win it or at the very least send it to OT but Cale Makar made a terrific play to steal the puck, rush up and set up the winner.
- They showed their resiliency again by coming back to tie it twice from two-goal deficits and I sort of expected them to somehow tie it again in those last few seconds. The point streak ends and they are three points behind Tampa, who has a game in hand, but four points behind Boston who has played two more games. But Columbus and Montreal are still ahead of the Rangers with Detroit, Philly and the Islanders just behind.
- They had their chance with the late PP. They had some good chances and possessed the puck, but they couldn’t find a way to get it done. There are very few players in the league who can swoop in, seemingly undetected, and intercept that pass and rush it up the ice. Unfortunately for the Rangers Cale Makar was in the box. Should Will Borgen have sent it back down to K’Andre Miller? Probably, but he tried getting the puck to Panarin for another chance to potentially score and prevent OT, but it went the other way and the Rangers come away with zero today.
- They saw one half of the Mikko Rantanen trade today with Martin Necas and the Avs and they’ll see Rantanen on Tuesday when Carolina comes to town.
